We get asked about click and collect at events quite often, and honestly, I get it.
Before every event I have to make decisions about what comes with me. Some things make it into the van. Some things do not. Some things make it all the way to the venue and still never quite make it onto the display, because tables are only so big, setup windows are never long enough, and apparently I am not yet allowed to bend the laws of physics just to fit more dice towers on a stall.
Then there are the things that do make it out, but sell quickly. You spot them online later, or see someone else walking away with one, and realise you missed your chance.
So, we are trying something new.
Event collection is now a thing
We are launching event click and collect starting with MCM Comic Con Birmingham, followed by Tabletop Scotland.
That means you can browse the website before the event, place your order online, and collect it from the BlueCyborg stall when you get there.
All you need to do is choose Pickup during checkout, then select the event you want to collect from.
Your order will then be packed up, labelled, and ready for collection at the stall.
No waiting in for the postie. No missed delivery card. No parcel doing a mysterious tour of the country. No postage cost. Just order online, come to the event, and collect your loot from BlueCyborg.
Why this should help
BlueCyborg is a bit of a wandering merchant operation. We trade online, but a huge amount of what we do happens at conventions, comic cons, tabletop shows, and pop-up events.
The problem is that the online shop has more room than the stall. Much more room.
At events, I have to pick and choose. Dice, paints, miniatures, ID cards, pin badges, dice towers, weird little accessories, shiny things, useful things, things that made sense when I packed them at midnight, there is always more stock than table space.
Event collection gives you a way around that. If you know there is something you want, you do not have to hope it made it into the right box, survived the great table-space argument, and was still there by the time you reached the stall.
Good things to collect at events
This should be especially useful for the sort of things that already do well at events, but can be easy to miss in the chaos.
Our Puck of Destiny HP Health Trackers have become a table-friendly favourite, small enough to grab on impulse, useful enough to actually earn their keep during a game.
The cosplay ID cards are another good example. Cards like the Supernatural Cosplay ID Card and McLovin Hawaii Driver Licence Cosplay ID Card are exactly the sort of thing people spot at events, laugh at, come back for later, and then occasionally find someone else has beaten them to it.
Dice are the obvious one too. Whether you are after acrylic dice, resin dice, sharp edge sets, liquid core dice, or something heavier from the metal dice range, event collection lets you choose at your own pace instead of trying to make a decision while someone nearby is rolling every D20 on the table.
You can also browse the wider RPG dice collection before the event, which is much easier than trying to remember which set caught your eye while walking around a busy hall.
Launch bonus: free acrylic dice
To kick this off, every event collection order will also get a free set of acrylic dice added in.
No complicated quest chain. No secret password. Just choose Pickup at checkout, select the event you want to collect from, and we’ll add a free set of acrylic dice as a thank you for trying the new setup.
How it works
- Browse the website before the event.
- Add your chosen loot to your basket.
- Choose Pickup during checkout.
- Select the event you want to collect from.
- Come to the BlueCyborg stall at the event.
- Show your order confirmation and collect your bag of treasure.
A couple of important details
Event collection will only be available for named events, and only when the Pickup option appears at checkout.
You will still need your own event ticket or pass where the event requires one. Ordering from BlueCyborg does not include entry to the venue, sadly I have not yet gained the power to override convention security.
Please bring your order confirmation when you come to collect. Orders must be collected from the BlueCyborg stall during public opening hours at the named event.
If an order is not collected by the end of the event, it will be cancelled, refunded, and returned to stock.
Starting with MCM Birmingham and Tabletop Scotland
This new event collection option starts with MCM Comic Con Birmingham, then continues at Tabletop Scotland.
If it works well, we’ll look at rolling it out for more larger events in the future.
This should make event shopping easier, especially if you already know what you want, or if you want to avoid missing out on items that are hard to display, quick to sell, or just buried somewhere in the many, many boxes that somehow follow me to every convention.
So next time you see Pickup available at checkout for an event, that means we’re bringing the loot with us.
Order ahead, collect at the stall, and save yourself a bit of postage-shaped nonsense.
