Two Thin Coats Wave 3 Is Back. No, Really.

I don't think a week has gone by without someone asking me when Two Thin Coats Wave 3 is coming back into stock.

And every time, I've had pretty much the same answer.

"I've ordered it, but I don't know when it's coming."

Not a particularly helpful answer, I know, but it was the only one I had.

Well, after months of waiting, the full Two Thin Coats Wave 3 range is finally back at BlueCyborg!

All 60 paints, available to order right now.

So, what's Two Thin Coats?

If you're into painting miniatures, you've probably heard of Duncan Rhodes. If you haven't, he's the chap who spent years teaching people how to paint Warhammer miniatures through Games Workshop's painting tutorials.

He's also responsible for one of the best-known bits of miniature painting advice: always apply two thin coats rather than one thick coat.

After leaving Games Workshop, Duncan went on to establish the Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy with Roger Yates, and eventually developed his own range of miniature paints with Trans Atlantis Games.

They called it Two Thin Coats. Naturally.

The range was developed specifically for miniature painters, with a focus on strong pigmentation, good coverage and smooth application.

One of the things I particularly like about Two Thin Coats is the colour triad system. Rather than trying to work out which three slightly different shades of green are supposed to go together, you've got a shadow, mid-tone and highlight designed to work as a set.

Which is useful when you've already spent far too long deciding what colour to paint the miniature in the first place.

What's in Wave 3?

Wave 3 brings another 60 paints to the Two Thin Coats range, covering everything from regular acrylic colours and metallics to washes and varnishes.

There are some fantastic colours in this wave, including Mythic Turquoise, Ambush Yellow, Faust Blue, Spectral Purple and Zombie Rot.

And there's plenty for those of us who spend more time making miniatures look battered, rusted and generally unpleasant than making them look clean.

Metallics like Ancient Gold and Bitz O' Tin sit alongside washes such as Aztec Turquoise Wash and Smoke Grey Wash.

We've also got the Two Thin Coats effects paints, including Desert Rust, Iron Oxide, Verdigris and Toxic Goo.

These are particularly handy for adding rust, corrosion, slime and other unpleasant details without having to spend ages building up the effect yourself.

Although I suspect some people rather enjoy spending ages doing exactly that.

Yes, you can actually order it now

I'm quite relieved to finally be able to tell people something other than "I don't know".

The full Wave 3 range is back, the bottles are £4.25 each, and you can order them directly from BlueCyborg.

It's here. Finally.
